A Loving Restoration
June has dedicated the past decade to cultivating her celebrated garden at Tinode, alongside meticulously restoring four historic, virtually derelict 19th century farm outbuildings on the scenic estate. This delightful modern refurbishment was crafted by Architects Michael Kelly and Dan Costelloe, earning the prestigious title of ‘BEST HOUSE’ in 2014 at the Architecture Ireland Awards- RIA.
A team of skilled artisans has crafted modern and beautiful living spaces, while preserving the original materials and structures of the historic farm buildings.
Through a private entrance, you’ll discover a one-of-a-kind and stylish space on the ground floor. This area seamlessly combines cooking, dining, and relaxation, featuring a heated polished concrete floor crafted from local sand and granite. The kitchen island is also made from the same cast concrete, adding to the overall unique design.
Bedrooms & Bathrooms
Two charming bedrooms upstairs with double beds feature en suite bathrooms with glass accents. The house is illuminated by four custom roof lights, filling every space with natural light and sunshine.
Design Features
The Cow House has its own timber and glass elevation set back behind the restored granite elevation. A crisp and effective two story insert within the existing walls of a ruined 19th century farm building, the renovation provides open and uncluttered domestic spaces of great charm.
It has an independent ground floor structure of timber posts, timber/steel flitch beams and timber joists, supporting first floor timber structural frames which in turn support the 15m long laminated timber ridge beam. This enables the rafters to span from the ridge to the walls permitting the roof space to accommodate two en-suite bedrooms. The partitions are formed from European birch faced plywood.
The stairs is baroque in conception and design. The lower section is formed from cast concrete, dense, solid and load bearing in contrast with the upper section, a semi solid hanging assembly of laminated plywood.
